Call for Artists: “CounterCulture: Hidden Stories of Chicago Past and Present”

Show Dates: May 11- May 27

Submission deadline: Saturday April 21 11:59PM

As Chicago’s landscape continues its transformation and grows increasingly homogenous, one has the opportunity to ponder the erasure of people, places, and ideas that were once synonymous with Chicago culture and identity.

Bucktown Gallery is seeking artwork that explores this theme for our upcoming May exhibition.  Our aim is to explore the hidden stories of the unique people and places in Chicago that have or do operate behind the uniform façade of chain coffee shops and luxury real estate developments, and celebrate the beauty of the many diverse subcultural elements that truly comprise this city and our community.

Local artists will be featured in Bucktown Gallery’s upcoming show, CounterCulture. Submitted artwork will, per the artists’ discretion, be available for purchase during the duration of the show. Certain artists may be invited to continue to display their works in future exhibitions or as part of Bucktown Gallery’s rotating standing collection. We are accepting works of all media (2D, 3D, film, sculpture, etc)

Artists will be notified via email by April 23.

All pieces must be exhibition-ready (Dry, complete, wired and ready for hanging, and with no protruding nails or other hazards. Works should be framed if applicable, or otherwise prepared for professional presentation).
