Andrea Kaspryk
My formal art education began with taking art classes in high school and a few during my college undergraduate degree when I studied English. For a time my focus was more on writing and reading and studying literature than visual art and working as an instructor of writing and English as a Second Language. I resumed taking art classes at the Drawing Workshop in figure drawing and painting, and then took continuing education classes at SAIC (the School of the Art Institute of Chicago), and finally went back to school for a second degree, a BFA in Painting and Drawing at SAIC (2013). I continue taking figure painting classes at Lillstreet Art Center.
Since 2014 I have joined a community art group in Logan Square, AnySquared, where I collaborate on projects, such as murals, and serve as a co-coordinator of Figure Tuesdays, a weekly drop-in figure drawing session. Since September 2017 I have been a founding member of Agitator Storefront Gallery and help staff and run the space.
Most of my paintings, drawings and prints tell a story, and in the art world these are called narrative paintings. My past interest and pursuit of writing and studying literature informs my desire to tell a story through images.
